1When is the application live?
Both scholarship applications (US and T&T) open on March 1, 2026 and are due by end-of-day May 31, 2026.
2Who will my mentor be?
Your mentor will be a professional who has graduated college and is mid-career level or higher in their field of work.
3When will scholarship winners be announced?
Scholarship winners will be announced on or before June 30, 2026. If this date changes for any reason, applicants will be notified by email.
4Can I email you my essay prompt?
No, all parts of the application need to be submitted in the form to be considered. Please check your application for completeness before submitting.
5What do I do if I need to make changes to my application later on?
Submit another application (ABMAE link for US applicants, GHEMAE link for T&T applicants). The most recent complete submission will be considered for the award.
6Can I apply if I currently attend school in one of the scholarship areas but will be attending post-secondary education somewhere else?
Yes! There are two scholarships available for 2026 graduating high school students based on primary residence. The Avis Brebnor Memorial Award for Excellence (ABMAE) is for 2026 graduating high school students residing in the Atlanta, Nashville, New Jersey and New York metro areas in the United States. The Gillis-Harry/Edinborough Memorial Award for Excellence (GHEMAE) is for 2026 graduating high school students residing in Trinidad and Tobago.
7If I don’t live in one of these areas, can I still apply?
Unfortunately not at this time.
8Which qualities make up your ideal candidate?
We are looking for underrepresented students who are actively engaged in and are leaders in their school and community, have a strong work ethic, and are involved in extracurricular activities and / or are employed.
9What do I win if selected?
If selected, students will receive a one-time $500 scholarship award and ongoing mentorship from a career professional.
10Does the award money have to be used for a specific purpose?
The applicant can use the scholarship money however they see fit to help them in their educational pursuits.
